October proved to be a monumental month for Turkey in terms of oil and natural gas production, with the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry making a significant announcement on Wednesday. The production of crude oil and natural gas reached new heights, setting both monthly and daily records, as reported by the government.

The ministry revealed in a detailed written statement that Turkey’s natural gas production hit a staggering 234.4 million cubic meters (mcm), while the domestic crude oil production skyrocketed to an all-time high of 3.36 million barrels for the month of October alone. The average daily production for natural gas and oil stood at 7.56 million cubic meters and 108,443 barrels, respectively.

Breaking down the data further, it was revealed through an infographic released by the ministry that the highest oil production for a single day occurred on October 29, reaching an impressive 111,280 barrels. On the other hand, natural gas production peaked on October 23 at 7.9 mcm.

The remarkable increase in oil and gas production can be attributed to Turkey’s enhanced exploration activities in recent years, leading to the discovery of notable gas fields on the Black Sea coast and newly found deposits in the Gabar region in the southeast.

The ministry highlighted that natural gas production from the Sakarya Field contributed to 84% of all gas production in October, while oil output from the Gabar region accounted for 46.6% of the total oil production in the country. Notably, natural gas production at the Sakarya Gas Field hit 6.66 mcm on October 23, while production in Gabar reached its peak on October 29 at 52,573 barrels.

In light of the latest data, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar emphasized Turkey’s commitment to advancing oil and gas development by 2024. He reiterated the country’s focus on increasing production through the exploration of new fields, drilling, and exploration activities to meet the growing energy demands.

Bayraktar stated, “We will strive for new reserves and new discoveries on different continents, as in the example of Oruç Reis, which started its seismic activities in Somalia. Our goal is making Türkiye fully independent in energy.”

Last month, the Turkish research ship Oruç Reis embarked on a mission to conduct seismic investigations for natural gas and oil in Somalia, with the operation anticipated to last approximately seven months. During a welcoming ceremony at the Port of Mogadishu, Bayraktar announced the signing of a new deal for onshore hydrocarbon exploration in Somalia between the Somali Petroleum Authority and the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO).

The recent achievements in oil and gas production in October demonstrate Turkey’s dedication to advancing its energy sector and achieving greater self-sufficiency in the future. With ongoing exploration activities and new discoveries, the country is positioning itself as a key player in the global energy market, with plans for further growth and development on the horizon.
